OUR CURRENT FOCUS
SUBLIMATION
In
the physical world, sublimation means "to refine or purify
a substance". It is a chemical process that allows a change
from one form to another without evaporation. In psychological terms,
it refers to the mental and emotional process of transforming negative
experiences or urges into more personally and socially rewarding
outcomes.
Some
of our greatest moments of personal and spiritual growth, come from
the pain that is part and parcel of our everyday life. That is not
to minimize the profound sorrows that we can face during these times
of crisis.Nor is it to imply that we should run toward painful experiences
so that we might find Wisdom.
However,
it might encourage us to channel our strength and not give up so
that we might not just get through the pain but that we might be
transformed. It might make us more observant of the kindness around
us that otherwise might go unnoticed. It might challenge us to become
what Ghandi called "the change we want to see in the world".
That's
sublimation-and that's cause for JOY.
